The Brookings report indicates the likelihood of a turnaround in the industry is remote, “contrary to repeated industry projections.

The study concludes with a sober warning to cities, like Lancaster, considering the costly investment into a convention center: “This analysis should give local leaders pause as they consider calls for ever more public investment into the convention business, while weighing simultaneously where else scarce public funds could be spent to boost the urban economy.”
